Finally! Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers LIVE!

James and I drove down to Atlanta today to see Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers!!!!

Here we are after Crosby, Stills, and Nash... waiting on Tom... just pondering how he's sitting backstage. Just being cool... getting ready for another show, another night...

I ♥ Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers!

We're heading back home right now. Man... it's amazing how much gas mileage you can get and how much faster you can go... when you don't have to pull a trailer up and down the mountains!!! :)

Tom Petty is actually coming to Nashville tomorrow, but we need to leave for Ohio tomorrow - so we took the one chance we had in our schedule to go see him on this tour!!!!

It's amazing how quickly 2 hours fly by when all of your songs are THAT good. It felt like he had only been playing for 20 minutes. And I'm pretty good at judging set times these days ;) It was so inspiring to watch and listen to these guys. Tom has this way with writing lyrics with so much depth yet they are so singable and catchy. I mean, EVERYTHING HE PLAYED I got excited to hear. And I even knew all the ones off his new record. I teared up a few times looking around the arena and thinking about how so much of the time THAT is what I am envisioning.

I don't ever want to talk badly about a show or make any show seem less important than any other. If one person shows up and is into it - then we win! But of course, it is much harder on the "there's 7 people here and no one actually wants us playing in their cafeteria" days than it is on the "hundreds of people packed into a room and are all listening and way into it". And thank goodness the days of "kids just wanting to eat a burrito and we are bothering them on their lunch hour" are WAAAAAY fewer and further in between than they used to be. But that's all part of this process. If I didn't do years of THAT... then I wouldn't have nearly as much to say. And there's ALWAYS a silver lining. Every single situation is such great training and can be used for a metaphor on a much larger scale down the road.

But when the shows are rough... I just put myself in front of the crowd that was there for him tonight - people who drove for hundreds of miles just to sing along with their favorite songs... know all the words... and are that deeply affected by music. It's not hard to picture :)

I think I had about 5 different song ideas during the show tonight. :) And as we are getting ready to head out on another big leg of the tour tomorrow, I am excited for what is ahead. The pace is quickening and I can feel the wheels rollin harder and faster than ever.

Peace. Love. Fiddle.
