Pics of Our Souq Outing

Before we got into the heart of the Souq, Hussain took us to get some cheese bread - Karen was really excited about it, which made it even more fun to look forward to. It was quite tasty - It was some kind of creamy cheese melted into what looked like a cross between a tortilla and naan (or a pita, maybe).

I was really excited... Gordon must not have been quite as excited!

All of us patiently waiting...

Mmmmm... Worth the wait :)

It was down this small alley way and didn't really have a store front. But Hussain went up to the doorway where you could see into a kitchen, ordered for everyone and then we could watch them make it. This crazy oven was what they used to make the bread. There was something about the oven being made with hair.... but then the hair burns away... something crazy that I didn't understand nor did I get the full details on.

Oh Cicco... They convinced the shop owner to unwrap the package so Cicco could get a good picture in the headdress. But the guy did make 2 Dinar from me and James - we bought little mosque clocks that have the prayer alarms go off. It sound just like the speakers that go off in town! Daddy loves his :) I thought he was in good company since Karen says Sigourney Weaver bought one for herself :)

So I tried this crazy stuff on Hussain's recommendation. I was a little worried about trying it, but I got brave. It was really sweet (so right up my alley) and somewhere between jello and jam - consistency-wise. It was the strangest consistency I have ever tasted, but it was pretty cool and VERY yummy!

The shop was tiny and the guy was making it right in front of us in a HUGE pot - he was adding nuts and some kind of juice veeeery carefully the whole time we were in there. But I am not very sure how he could have improved it!

Yeah... That's the bridge to Saudi Arabia. Or as I called it... the bridge NOT to cross.

This place was literally 3 floors of solid jewelry stores. Too bad I didn't need any. I did look for fiddle charms, and they had a few, but none that would look right on my necklace. It was amazing how much stuff was in there, though.

This was a beautiful rug store - I am behind James (unseen) completely enthralled with this collapsable wooden stand that look like an elephant. It falls down into a circle and you would never know it was an elephant until you lift it up - and it's one piece of wood - without holes.

We played at Spinnaker tonight in PCB. So much fun - but sooo hot. However, I just keep reminding myself of how much hotter it was when played outside in Bahrain!

Peace. Love. Fiddle.
