I'm Proud To Be An American

One of the best moments of my life happened tonight.

I was standing in the middle of a sea of Sailors and Marines, watching fireworks, and we were all singing "I'm Proud to be an American" at the TOP of our lungs. Watching those guys looking at each other, chills running through my entire body, you can see the tears in their eyes... So incredibly powerful.

Right as I am writing this, Gordon and James BOTH just started talking about the same moment tonight, and how heavy it was. Unbelievable. I can't believe I get to do this for a living.

We played a show in freakin, Rota, Spain... in front of the largest American flag I have ever seen, to an audience of the Sailors, Marines, Soldiers, Pilots, and their families.

I can't believe it.

The adventure continues tomorrow. They have gotten a military flight for us even though we were already supposed to be on a commercial flight. They don't want any more lost luggage... Apparently our bags are still held hostage in JFK. They never made it on the plane... BUT we had so much fun running over to the Navy Exchange today and finding things to wear for the show. Quickest shopping trip ever. I tried on every pair of jeans that I thought was cute... and after about 8 pair, I found one that fits. WINNER! Then I ran around and found the make-up I needed... a cute ring, belt, hair scarf and POOF! Show outfit. I did end up wearing the same shirt I've had on for 4 days now. BUT, everyone was sweating enough that it didn't matter. :) Or at least that is what I told myself.

And the Command Master Chief gave me his personal coin. Yup. I may not be cool... but THAT made me feel WAY cool.

The guys were cracking me up after the show. I signed a LINE of stomachs. :) I was ok with that.
This is Dan from Montana. My #1 fan tonight - front row, screaming, AWESOME.

The guys that were trying to distract me the entire time I was doing an interview... :)

So yeah. Ready for another great day in the office tomorrow... you know... fly from Italy to Spain on military aircraft.

Peace. Love. Fiddle.

Your music last night really touched my heart, really made it feel like we were not a thousand or so miles from the States, you really brought a piece of home back to me, and to many others i am sure.
thank you so much

Wow. Mike. Thank you so much for this comment. That is amazing - you have no idea how much it means to US to get to play for you guys. Y'all are the ones that need all the thanks. And I am SOOO happy you had fun and could escape even just a little bit.
God Bless you and your family!!!
Hope to see you back at home soon!

You'll see that anywhere servicemen and women are. You'd be hard-pressed to find a dry eye when we hear that song.
I remember 17 years ago in boot camp. At the end of our last full week there, we had a day of 1 inspection after another. They were spending the day breaking us down. After the last inspection and the ass-chewing that always followed, our company commanders put that song on and slowly walked by each of us holding an American Flag in his outstretched arms. Everyone of us (80) were bawling like little babies by the end and swearing that we would always put 1000% more effort into everything than we did preparing for those inspections. I think of that day every time I hear that song and still shed tears everytime too, 17 years later.
