Arcadia University

As we were trying to find the campus tonight, I looked over and saw this GINORMOUS castle. I was like "Hey would't it be cool if we played there?" Oh, it was the front entrance to Arcadia. How cool is that!?!? They have dorms in the castle and there is going to be a dance there tomorrow night. I want to go. I'm jealous. :)

Ready for a little history lesson? I just looked it all up, so I am going to share:

The castle was built in 1893 and was a grandiose structure based on Alnwick Castle, the medieval seat of the Dukes of Northumberland in England. It cost $250,000 to build :) The owner was William Helsh Harrison.

The castle became one of America's great castles which, with its 40 rooms, was also one of the largest homes in the country. The eclecticism so popular at the time is well represented in Grey Towers' architecture and interior decoration. The structure attracted attention to the architect, Horace Trumbauer, and he was launched on a highly successful career.

Mr. Harrison died in 1927 and in 1929 Arcadia University, then located in Jenkintown, purchased Grey Towers from his widow and son at a price of $712,500. For a number of years, classes were held both in Jenkintown and Glenside, but in 1962 Arcadia University transferred completely to the Grey Towers property.

Ok. Class dismissed. :)

Let me just say, I am in love with this school. Not only is part of this campus a really awesome castle, but they have this newsletter they put in the bathrooms (on the stalls) called "Bathroom Talk". One of the subjects was about the health benefits of chocolate. It contains some of the same nutrients as dark veggies. As long as you eat it in moderation, (not over 3.5oz a day) it can be good for you.
Done.
This school is awesome.

The wind was pretty ridiculous tonight. On our drive, I felt like we were gonna be blown off the road! And then once we go there, I had to stand with all my body weight up against the trailer door to keep it from slamming shut on us while we were unloading. There were times that, even though I was braced well, I could barley keep from falling over. It was fierce!

This is Heather on the left and Natalie on the right. They were responsible for bringing us to Arcadia and they helped us load and unload all of our gear!!! They were both SO sweet!!! Team Natalie!

SPC - Student Programming Board
These are the students who put on the event! They also all helped with the loading and unloading of the gear. Thanks SPC!

Oh Ghetto 90's Hoot.

Jenn (my Texas girl!!!) and Hallie!!! They were there early enjoying some Ben and Jerry's Brownie Batter ice cream. I wanted to steal it, but I figured I'd be polite and just go get my own. Can't wait to try it!!! More on that later. :)

Marina!!! I am living vicariously through her pink hair... one day, y'all one day... maybe the just the tips of mine hot pink? Whadda ya think? Maybe for just a little while?

These girls were so sweet. And they all loved Granny's Song, Angel. So I loved them.

Maury (as in the county I grew up in - or Povich...), our sound man! A little smaller of a crew from Husson, but no less professional, that's for sure!

And I have to give a big shout out to the Pennsylvania State Troopers for commenting on my blog yesterday. :) Thanks for watching out for us!!!! We'll see ya on the road in PA tomorrow!

Peace, Love, Fiddle,
~natalie

Thanks for thinking of us Natalie, we will have an escort of our large SUV's ride beside you today to block the winds; we can't have the wind tangling up all your magnificent long hair, fine as spun gold like Rapunzel.

Rumor has it that Rapunzel escaped from her fairy tale and is living the good life in the Arcadia Castle, and right now she's rocking to the awesome beauty of your Late Night Conversations CD. Here in Pennsylvania that's what we call a very happy ending !!

Natalie and the boys, y'all come back to see us real soon !! Pleeeease : )
