Jealous of the Angels

Tonight I had one of those exceptional experiences - where I was so thankful just to be in the room.

My good friends Jenn Bostic, Charlie Hutto, and Travis Thibodeaux (along with 2 other writers I didn't know) played a show at the Bluebird Cafe. But somewhere between the clever hooks and summer drinking songs, Jenn got up to play a song that made the room feel like it had frozen in time.

When she was 10 she was in a tragic car accident that killed her father. It was one of the main things that pushed her into music. I know that she still has a hard time talking about it. So it was a surprise to hear her talking about it on stage. But I soon understood why. I don't remember ever crying that hard at a song in public. It was beautiful. It was so honest and genuine. It felt like the whole room was holding their breath those three and a half minutes because no one wanted to miss a word.

I found a video of her singing it on Youtube that I want to share. I can't wait for her to record this. And if you ever get the chance to hear her sing it live - GO. She plays in Nashville, Boston, Minnesota, and Colorado most often, but she tours everywhere.

She tells a little more about the story in this video and then sings "Jealous of the Angels"

I can't imagine it's an easy thing to sing this song - ever. She got quite emotional trying to play it tonight which only made it more moving. It's so inspiring and reminds me that as artists we have such a responsibility to get down to the most honest place possible. When you can do that - truly dig into that brutally honest place that normally you don't even want to admit out loud - you can write songs that can move mountains. Not all songs need to be that way. But I hope and pray for that kind of honesty in my writing. And I am so proud of her for reaching that place.

Here's her website which has much more music from her recently released album, "Keep Looking For Love". The album is fantastic, and was produced by one of my favorite co-writers (and great friend) Mr. Charlie Hutto.

Hay : )

I think this is the first time that reading any blog has created tears running down my eyes.

God be with Jenn and her family !!

I have a very hard time dealing with loss of life in people, pets and critters. I try to keep telling myself "It's not my place to question, only God nows why" as Jenn sang so beautifully in her song.

While loss can hurt so much I believe that feeling love so deeply is a tremendous blessing God gives us, and everything that we experience is an opportunity that God gives us to learn and grow.

Jenn's song surely shows she is filled with love so big she can't hold it all in. I know her daddy has so much love and happiness as he watches her perform !!

There is such an awesome sound with her live performance, I'll be watching her video often and I look forward to getting a CD too.

It would be great if y'all create a compilation of Angel songs, you've already got two of the most beautiful songs in the world with Jenn's song and your song you wrote for Granny !!

Thank y'all for giving me a feeling of love so deep I can't hold it all in, and thank you for all of your friendship, love and happy times !!!!!!!!!!

With lots of love,
Your FFBF : )
